Louisiana State Route 44 (LA 44) was one of the 98 original state highways that were established in 1924. It ran in a south to north direction for , spanning from Ruston to Farmerville. It was designated in the post-1955 system as Louisiana Highway 33. ==Route description==
"Beginning at Ruston through Darbonne to a point on Route No. 15 near Downsville." - 1924 Louisiana Legislative Route Description From the south, LA 44 began at an intersection with US 80 in Ruston, turning northeast towards Arkansas. It passed through the hills that are typical of North Louisiana, meeting no small towns along the way. LA 44 was solely used as a road to get from Farmerville to Ruston, as the original goal of the highway system was to ensure adequate access from parish seat to parish seat. It ended at an intersection with LA 15.
